Peace Initiative in West Africa

What is West African Peace Initiative

The West African Peace Initiative is a multi-faceted project organized and implemented by WARA/WARC in the interest of promoting research and dialogue on peace building and conflict resolution in the region.  The project has three major branches: a fellowship program, regional conferences, and a journalism institute. The West African Peace Initiative was a project funded through the US State Department.

The West African Peace Initiative Journalism Institute, headed up by Professor Eugenie Rokhaya Aw, hosted journalists from the region who were working in conflict zones. The first ten-week session, which included journalists from Niger, Benin, Togo, and Guinea Conakry, ended in July. The second session began in October and hosted journalists from Guinea Conakry, Mauritania, Ivory Coast, and Senegal.
